Stadium debate shifts to Clearwater Wednesday
After six months spent courting the St. Petersburg Mayor and City Council, the Tampa Bay Rays shift venues Wednesday to Pinellas County. There, the Rays will be selling their $450-million waterfront stadium plan -- and more specifically their plan to pay for it -- to the county's Tourist Development Council.
The Rays are seeking $100-million from the extension of a 1 percent county hotel tax that is now paying off the debt at Tropicana Field.
The TDC, which is made up of county elected leaders and tourism officials, will ultimately make a recommendation to the County Commission. The commission is expected to weigh in on the matter next month.
