State House candidate James Grant faces election law violation complaints
Christopher Mitchell, the newly elected vice chair of the Hillsborough County Democratic Party, has filed three complaints with the Florida Elections Commission alleging that District 47 state House candidate James Grant violated state elections laws. The complaints stem from a $40,000 loan that Grant made to his campaign days before the primary election. Mitchell alleges that the loan is in fact an illegal campaign contribution from First Citrus Bank. He also charges that Grant illegally authorized payments from his campaign account before he had the money to cover the expenses, and that he inappropriately accepted campaign contributions -- one of them is from his father, former state Sen. John Grant -- within days of the Aug. 24 Republican primary. Grant will face Democrat Michael Steinberg in November. Read more about it here.
