Tampa City Council candidate Julie Jenkins rakes in cash
Tampa City Council candidate Julie Jenkins is crowing about the results of her first fundraising quarter and with good reason. She pulled in $11,700 in cash contributions.
That's significantly more than any other council or mayoral candidate in the March 2011 Tampa elections. Jenkins is a business owner and community activist running for the District 4 seat that represents South Tampa.
The second most successful fundraiser last quarter was Seth Nelson, a candidate for the District 3 city-wide seat, who raised more than $8,000, bringing his campaign total to more than $19,000.
And in third place in the fundraising horse race: Tony DeSisto, who's running against Jenkins. He raised $4,200, bringing his total to more than $22,500.
Two sitting City Council members have not fared well. Joseph Caetano, running for re-election to North Tampa's District 7 post, hasn't raised any money since July. His cash campaign contributions total only $2,250. And council chairman Tom Scott, who is running for mayor, has raised only $8,240 since announcing his candidacy nearly a year ago. He pulled in only $675 in the most recent quarter.
