Tampa City Council's Mary Mulhern sets up discussion of security spending for Republican National Convention
The Tampa City Council Thursday could have its most detailed discussion yet on proposed security expenditures for the 2012 Republican National Convention.
Council members are scheduled to vote on formally accepting a $50 million federal grant to pay for convention security at the 9 a.m. meeting. Then they are scheduled to consider spending nearly $273,000 of the funds on a new armored SWAT team truck and another $1.18 million to convert the analog video feed from cameras in police helicopters to a state-of-the-art digital downlink.
The vote on accepting the grant, plus the item on the armored truck, were on the council's consent agenda. Council vice chairwoman Mary Mulhern has moved both items to be discussed in conjunction with the video downlink proposal.
