Tampa fundraisers planned for AG candidates
Fundraisers for Democratic attorney general candidates Dave Aronberg and Dan Gelber have been scheduled for this month.
Aronberg's event is Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the home of Janet Rifkin. Co-hosts include some prominent Hillsborough Democrats, including Cathy Bartolotti, Alan Clendenin, Clerk of the Circuit Court Pat Frank, former mayor Sandy Freedman, Hillsborough county public defender Julianne Holt, Tampa City Council members Linda Saul-Sena and Gwen Miller, and former state Senator Les Miller. And then there's Martín Gramatica, formerly a kicker for the Bucs. For more info call (561) 283-9596.
A holiday party and reception for Gelber is set for Dec. 15 at 5 p.m. at Bernini in Ybor City. For info call (786) 390-3507. Gelber has also received endorsements from some significant local Democrats, including former Congressman Jim Davis, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio, Betty Castor, state Senator Arthenia Joyner and state representatives Betty Reed and Michael Scionti.
Both candidates, who are from south Florida, have been spending a huge amount of time in the Tampa Bay area. "In a lot of ways it's ground zero," Gelber said. "It's a very significant voting community that gets very active and neither of us live in. So I think its important in the general and the primary."
Hillsborough will be even more important if Gelber or Aronberg have to face Republican Pam Bondi, a long-time prosecutor in the Hillsborough State Attorney's office, in November.
