Tampa will bid on 2012 Republican National Convention
For the third time, GOP fundraiser Al Austin is driving a push to bring the Republican National Convention to Tampa.
"Hopefully, the third time will be the lucky time," he said.
When the city bid for the 2008 convention, Mayor Pam Iorio, a Democrat, offered to provide $1 million in in-kind city services to the event. This time, though, she said the city will contribute nothing. Contracts will require that the city be paid up front or reimbursed for any expenditures.
And just think: If Tampa had won the 2008 convention that big Sarah Palin speech would have been here.
