Tarpon Springs manager wants to stay at post

TARPON SPRINGS - Maybe it’s not the best idea to switch horses in mid-stream, Tarpon Springs Interim City Manager Mark LeCouris told city commissioners Tuesday night.

With the possibility of budget cuts looming and big projects in the works like a $45-million water plant, LeCouris suggested the city may want to postpone a national search for a new city manager. LeCouris, Tarpon’s police chief, took the temporary assignment after the April resignation of former city manager Ellen Posivach, who butted heads with some commissioners over her management style.

LeCouris said he would be willing to remain at his post for the next several months - or longer – if commissioners chose. Postponing the search could save the city an estimated $13,000 a month in salary and benefits and offer continuity to staff and commissioners as they prepare next year's budget, LeCouris said.
