Tea Party group will meet at site of Castor health care town hall fracas

7

April

Now that Congress has approved health insurance reform, Hillsborough Republicans are reviving images of a town hall meeting on the topic last summer featuring District 11 Rep. Kathy Castor. That event, held at the Children's Board building in Ybor City, devolved into a near-riot, prompting Castor to bolt early.

Now, the Tampa Tea Party and Tampa 912 Project are hosting a District 11 town hall meeting at the same location at 6 p.m. Thursday. The invitation begins: "As you all know, the last town hall hosted by Kathy Castor was a total sham." It goes on to say Castor refused to take questions and "condescendingly lectured her audience on her rationales for essentially nationalizing our health care." This week's event, organizers say, "is to redress Kathy Castor's sham town hall." Castor as well as the Republican candidates for the District 11 seat have been invited to the event.

And last week, Hillsborough County GOP chair Deborah Cox-Roush included video of the town hall meeting that made national news along with an invitation to a District 11 Republican candidates forum scheduled for the party's monthly meeting on April 20.

GOP candidate Eddie Adams Jr. will be at both events. With an election on the horizon, he says it's important to remind voters of what happened last year during the health insurance reform debates.

"The representatives in Congress right now are not really listening to the people," he said. "This is a  chance for people to come and ask questions of candidates before they get into that position. This is an opportunity for people to be heard."
