Teachers union yanks endorsement
Pinellas School Board member Janet Clark, left, has lost the endorsement of the Pinellas teachers union over the selection of a new superintendent. Initially, Clark voted against hiring Julie Janssen, the union's favored candidate for superintendent. The reason: Clark's comments to the St. Petersburg Times, saying the union could keep its endorsement.
The board officially hired Janssen today, approving a three-year contract at a base salary of $200,000. Clark, elected in 2004, faces challenger Jennifer Crockett in the Nov. 4 election. Read more at our sister blog, The Gradebook.
