Thorton case puts judge in spotlight
Citrus Circuit Court judge Ric Howard can't be too happy about this: A high-profile Tampa law firm has taken up the cause of William Thorton IV, the then-teenage defendent Howard sentenced to 30 years for two counts of vehicular homicide.
The new appeal from Cohen, Jayson & Foster comes as Howard is facing a challenger in November for the first time since he joined the bench in 2000, Inverness attorney Rhonda Portwood. Read the story here.
