Tom Scott remains chairman of Tampa City Council
With little fanfare or discussion, the Tampa City Council today re-elected Tom Scott as its chairman.
Two other council members were nominated - Charlie Miranda and John Dingfelder - but Miranda didn't even vote for himself; he voted for Scott. So Gwen Miller switched her vote to Scott.
And that was that.
The post is largely ceremonial but provides a higher public profile for whoever holds it. Which can help at a time when some council members are eying other offices.
Scott, for example, is said to be considering a run for mayor or County Commission, where he has served before. Dingfelder too. Linda Saul-Sena is considering a run for mayor. Miranda is said to be considering running for the County Commission, where he could join former council colleague Rose Ferlita - though she is said to be considering running for mayor too.
