Trop repairs to be voted on by St. Pete City Council

ST. PETERSBURG -- A repair bill for Tropicana Field isn't expected to produce as much discussion as Tuesday's two hour chat between Mayor Bill Foster and Tampa Bay Rays owner Stu Sternberg.

But there's some big money riding on it.

The city council is scheduled to vote on approving $255,000 for eight items at the Trop, and for now, it's scheduled to be voted on without discussion.

The reason for the nonchalance is it's fairly routine. Every year, the club identifies improvement projects that need to be done. The projects are paid for by a fund that is financed by revenue from naming rights and ticket fees. The way the city's contract reads with the club is that the City Council needs to approve the projects once the Rays identify them.

This year, they are:

*  $175,000 to repair a rainwater piping system that runs by Gate 2.

* $15,000 to replace piping to the large cooling towers.

* $14,000 to replace a main gas line.

* $11,000 to replace a component of the sound system.

* $8,000 for expansion joints that protect and cover floor and wall separations.

* $5,000 for flood barriers at the south loading dock.

* $4,000 for re-piping under the 3rd base food court.

*$23,000 for contingency for all projects.

The Council will vote on the items at its 4:30 p.m. meeting on Thursday.
