Turnout sparse for Pinellas budget meeting
CLEARWATER -- With $85 million in budget cuts due, county officials prepared for crowds at this evening's budget hearing.
Staffers waited on the first floor of the courthouse in Clearwater. Hundreds had attended three public meetings this spring. Revenue has plunged to unforeseen lows, forcing program cuts to popular services.
"We really are living in historic times," budget director John Woodruff just told the County Commission.
