Updated: Mike Prendergast hosting voter rally today on USS 'Victory' ship
Mike Prendergast, the Republican challenging Democrat Kathy Castor's re-election to the District 11 Congressional seat, will host a voter rally today at 5 p.m. on the USS Victory ship docked in the Channel District. Prendergast retired from the Army in 2009 after reaching the rank of colonel. Prendergast's website makes the most of his military service, featuring it in the first paragraph of his biography.
Just has Prendergast has done his best to counter Castor's frequent news conferences (Last week he hosted an event unveiling his jobs plan on the same day Castor hosted a news conference announcing a HUD grant to develop a plan for transit-oriented development), Castor has a mail piece out now touting her work for veterans. It includes two photos of guys in Army fatigues and features her work on a GI bill that guarantees a college education for veterans and funding for soldiers who suffered severe injuries in Iraq and Afghanistan. There's no mention, though, of Castor's party affiliation.
UPDATE: Although Castor has the endorsement of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Political Action Committee, Prendergrast has his own military endorsements. One from retired Brig. Gen. Chip Diehl and several other high ranking retired officers and another from Combat Veterans for Congress.
