UPDATED: Roche starts raising money for Pinellas commission
The morning after Pinellas County Commissioner Calvin Harris had a fundraiser, perennial opponent Norm Roche announced Wednesday he is starting his own fund-raising effort.
Harris raised $15,900 in the first three months of the year, reports today show. Overall, he has raising $21,375 and spent $600.
Roche, who filed his candidacy paperwork in November, had raised $500 through December. Harris raised $5,500 through the same time.
From the news release of Roche, who lives in Clearwater: “The economic challenges we face today did not sneak up on anyone. Many red flags and warnings were ignored by our county leadership as our county budget and spending nearly doubled in just four years. And I simply believe that those who drove us into the mess are no longer the ones best suited to guide us out of it ... change doesn’t come with just one man in one election; we need sweeping change and new leadership throughout our government, starting right here in our own back yard.”
