Updated: State House hopeful Brian Blair's son arrested on drug charges

The son of state House candidate Brian Blair is facing drug charges after being arrested Tuesday. Brett Leslie Blair, 18, was charged with possession of oxycodone, marijuana and paraphernalia when the 1996 Toyota he was driving was pulled over by Tampa police for speeding at 5:27 a.m. near Brooks Street and Busch Boulevard. Brian Blair, a Republican and former Hillsborough County Commissioner, is running for the District 47 state House seat. On the campaign trail, Blair, formerly a professional wrestler, talks often about his work with children, and clearly he is struggling with his own children. Last year, he spent Father's Day in jail after a pre-dawn altercation with his two sons. Charges against him were later dropped, with the state attorney's office noting that Brett Blair was a troubled teen who had been suspended from school for aggressive behavior and run away from home four times.

Update: Brian Blair released this statement on his son's arrest today: "My son has unfortunately been dealing with substance abuse problems for some time now. I understand the hurt and pain that other parents cope with when their children have major challenges such as this. No matter what challenges we face as parents, there must be unconditional love and support. Everyone’s thoughts and prayers will be deeply appreciated as my son works through this difficult time."
