U.S. House District 12 contenders debate

LAKELAND -- The contenders for U.S. House District 12 will face off in three debates this month, but before voters see them behind a podium, they'll have a chance to meet them and ask questions at Lakeland's Politics in the Park event on Thursday, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Incumbent Republican candidate Adam Putnam and his challenger, Democratic candidate Doug Tudor, are asking for supporters to grab a campaign shirt and show up at the Lake Mirror Promenade, which is between Lemon Street and Lake Mirror Drive in downtown Lakeland.

This year, the event is free. Politics in the Park is one of Polk County's biggest campaign events. There will also be a straw poll, live entertainment and plenty of food sold by local vendors.

To pick up a Doug Tudor campaign shirt, contact his brother Jon Tudor at To pick up an Adam Putnam campaign shirt, stop by their office at 810 E Main Street in Bartow.

District 12 includes Polk County and parts of Osceola County and Hillsborough County, including the South Shores area, Brandon and Thonotosassa.

-- Tuesday, 7 p.m., hosted by the League of Women Voters, at 330 W Church St, Bartow
