Wagman proposes moratorium on increased St. Petersburg park spending
ST. PETERSBURG -- Mayoral hopeful Scott Wagman was a guest on the Scott Farrell radio show Thursday night. You can listen to the interview here (Wagman's interview starts around the eight-minute mark).
Here are some highlights:
- Wagman proposed a temporary moratorium on increased park spending. "We all want beautiful dog parks, parks, shrubbery things like that," Wagman said. "The flip side is at some point we need ... to back off on the expense on these parks."
- Wagman called the Pier "an unmitigated disaster" and said he try to would stop its $1 million-plus city subsidy.
- Wagman said he would make luring new companies to St. Petersburg a top priority. He said Albert Whitted Airport could help attract new corporate headquarters downtown.
- Wagman said he was in favor of allowing police to initiate high-speed pursuits to catch criminals. Current policy only allows for the pursuit of the most violent criminals.
Farrell also teased us with a little talk about the proposed stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays. But the audio seems to have cut out before Wagman was able to address a possible new ballpark. Anyone hear what Wagman had to say?
