Wilton Simpson picks up backing of outgoing Senate Prez Haridopolos
East Pasco egg farmer and businessman Wilton Simpson continues to add big-name backers to his campaign for state Senate. Today he announced the endorsement of outgoing Senate President Mike Haridopolos. And on March 23 he's headed to the Italian Club in Ybor City for a fundraiser with Attorney General Pam Bondi and former Gov. Bob Martinez.
Right now, Simpson is headed toward an expensive Republican primary against state Rep. John Legg, R-Port Richey. Their District 11 was not one of the eight districts invalidated by the state Supreme Court, but the Senate map is far from finished. It's too early to know if there will be any redistricting implications in their race.
In a release, Haridopolos said: "Wilton Simpson is a business leader who understands the challenges that Florida is facing, and I look forward to his leadership in Tallahassee. Simpson is the type of leader necessary to overcome the challenges of this recession."
