Dana Young endorses Rick Cochran in Hillsborough County Commission race
Hillsborough County Commission candidate Rick Cochran on Tuesday picked up the endorsement of state Rep. Dana Young, R-Tampa. Young described Cochran, a Republican who lives in Wimauma, as a "strong and principled conservative" who would approach issues on the County Commission with "strength, diligence, fairness and integrity."
A veteran Tampa police detective and senior vice president of the city police union, the Tampa Police Benevolent Association, Cochran is running for the commission's District 4 seat. Republicans Janet Lee Dougherty and Stacy White and Democrat Donna Lee Fore also have filed papers to run for the seat.
District 4 covers southern and eastern Hillsborough County. The district is currently represented by Commissioner Al Higginbotham, who will vacate the seat in 2014 to run for the commission's countywide District 7 seat, currently held by term-limited Commissioner Mark Sharpe.
