Democratic State House candidate urges Gov. Rick Scott to "come up with a solution" to fight Zika in Florida
Democrat Bernie Fensterwald, a candidate running for the House District 65 seat in November, sent an open letter to Gov. Rick Scott today calling for action from the state to stop the spread of Zika.
"Floridians cannot wait for a federal response in this contentious election season," he wrote in the letter. "We must act now, before the Zika virus expands elsewhere in South Florida and northward."
Fensterwald criticized Scott and other GOP leaders, including opponent Rep. Chris Sprowls, for not calling a meeting to talk about how to tackle the Zika problem.
"I call upon you and legislative leaders... to meet in Tallahassee now in special session to come up with a solution and the funds to pay for it," he said. "The voters of Florida expect action, not 'fiddling while Rome burns.'"
