District 8 endorsement round-up: Long for Foster, SEIU for Davis

August

ST. PETERSBURG - Amy Foster's campaign announced today that she's received the endorsement of Commissioner Janet Long. Another Pinellas Comissioner, John Morroni, is also supporting her campaign. Commissioner Ken Welch, who represents a district in St. Petersburg, is not publicly supporting any candidates, as he is on the county's election canvassing board and has to remain neutral.

"I enthusiastically endorse Amy Foster for St. Petersburg City Council," Long said in a statement. "In addition to smart ideas and strong community support for her candidacy, Amy Foster has demonstrated the demeanor and good judgment St. Petersburg deserves on their City Council."

Her endorsement comes a few days after Pam Cichon, the wife of Foster's opponent Steve Galvin, wrote Long an email blaming Foster's campaign for a story in the Times about her husband.

Galvin's latest public endorsement came in June, when he posted on Facebook that he'd received the support of the AFL-CIO.

And in other endorsement news, candidate Robert Davis picked up the support of Florida SEIU (Service Employees International Union) last month.

"I am very excited and honored to receive the endorsement of SEIU," Davis wrote on his campaign's Facebook page. "We believe we share a common vision for Florida - one in which working families have respect and the right for fair representation."
