Ed Narain Sen. District 19 commercial features singing, Trump bobblehead
Florida Rep. Ed Narain, D-Tampa, released his first commercial Wednesday for his campaign for Senate District 19, the seat currently held by Sen. Arthenia Joyner.
The premise: Narain’s wife is a teacher who leaves early for work, so he drives their two daughters, ages 7 and 4, to school every day.
“These drives remind me that public service is about principals and people, not about politics as usual,” Narain says in the commercial.
The 30-second spot is supposed to a show a typical morning. The trio sings together (“Hit the Road Jack!”) and talks “about serious stuff” (Narain flashes a Trump bobblehead causing the girls to scream).
“We really do that every day,” Narain told the Tampa Bay Times. “Minus the Trump doll, of course.”
Narain is opposed in the primary by Rep. Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, and former state representative Betty Reed of Tampa.
Narain’s campaign paid $3,000 to Fletcher Rowley, the PR firm that produced the commercial, in March. His campaign had raised 173,851.10 as of June. Rouson had raised $92,050.62; Reed, $26,211.96.
