Firms vying for Trop Redevelopment plan cut in half
Fifteen applied, seven made the cut to offer their pitch on how to redevelop Tropicana Field --with or without a baseball stadium.
On Friday, a selection committee eliminated eight firms that submitted their qualifications to develop a master plan for the 85-acre on the western edge of downtown currently occupied by the Tampa Bay Rays.
The six-member committee whittled that list down to seven finalists, who will present their vision for remaking what some have called the city's "crown jewel" of development. They'll have until Sept. 30 to submit a plan that includes a baseball stadium. Another plan proposing how to develop the property without a stadium doesn't have a deadline yet.
The seven firms to make the cut will present to the committee on April 22, starting at 8:30 a.m.. They'll present their plan for 20-25 minutes and then answer questions from the commitee for another 20-25 minutes.
