Former Hillsborough property appraiser seeks alimony reduction

Out of work and without income, Former Hillsborough County Property Appraiser Rob Turner is seeking to adjust terms of the alimony he pays to an ex-wife.

Turner filed paperwork in circuit court in late January, shortly after he left office, seeking to adjust -- or "abate" -- the terms of his alimony. The filing says that, as of Jan. 29, he had not been able to find other work and thanks in part to the economic downturn has been forced to sell off a majority of his property holdings and tap retirement accounts. He was making $153,052 as property appraiser.

With no cash flowing, Turner says he is no longer able to make alimony payments of $5,250 per month to ex-wife Vivian Turner. The two divorced in November 2002. Turner has since remarried though his ex-wife has not. A judge has ordered mediation on the alimony request.

Turner served 16 years as Hillsborough County property appraiser. He was defeated in the Republican primary last year after admitting he sent pornographic emails to his former human resources director, whom he once dated and subsequently fired as the Tampa Bay Times was preparing a story about his actions.

He was succeeded by Democrat Bob Henriquez.
