Hillsborough School Board to require assistant superintendents to file financial disclosure reports
Senior staff in the Hillsborough County school district will have to file financial disclosure forms, the School Board decided Tuesday.
Chairwoman April Griffin first raised the issue on Aug. 27, but was voted down.
This time, with two board members absent and several pages of information available for the rest of the board to consider, Griffin got the three votes she needed. Susan Valdes and Cindy Stuart sided with her while Candy Olson and Carol Kurdell voted no.
Superintendent MaryEllen Elia, Chief Budget Officer Gretchen Saunders, school principals and procurement officers already file disclosure forms.
The new rule extends the practice to assistant superintendents. Griffin said she raised the issue because senior staff is able to spend lesser amounts of money without the School Board's consent.
