If the Lens goes away, opinions vary on what's next
With a referendum looming over whether to cancel the contract between the city of St. Petersburg and the designer of the Lens, the City Council is being asked if they want to add language of their own to a ballot being drawn up at the demand of residents.
So a discussion scheduled for Thursday regarding the Aug. 27 ballot could be a long one.
On one hand, there's Mayor Bill Foster's three proposed straw-poll questions, which are aimed at gauging the desires of residents about what should replace the Pier after its demolition if voters make it clear they don't want the Lens.
On the other, there's at least one council member who doesn't want to add any questions to the ballot.
