St. Petersburg City Council member Jim Kennedy: My Rays stadium plan was supposed to be secret
St. Petersburg City Council member Jim Kennedy wasn't giving away any details of his not-so-secret plan to resolve the impasse with the Tampa Bay Rays at City Hall Thursday morning.
"The plan was to have confidential conversations," said Kennedy.
Pinellas County Commissioners Janet Long and Ken Welch confirmed to the Tampa Bay Times on Wednesday that Kennedy had approached them with ideas to break the stalemate between the city and the team.
So now that news has broken that the longtime opponent of letting the team look outside St. Petersburg is exploring ways to at least get to yes, what are the details?
Kennedy said he'd talk about it "in time."
Council Chairman Charlie Gerdes has scheduled a special meeting on Oct. 22 to present his own plan to allow the Rays to look outside the city for a new stadium site.
