No intrigue: Charlie Miranda re-elected chairman of Tampa City Council
The Tampa City Council Thursday re-elected Charlie Miranda as its chairman, Harry Cohen as vice chairman and Frank Reddick as the chairman when the council sits as the Community Redevelopment Agency.
Council members aren’t allowed to discuss their preferences for the leadership positions before their annual organizational meeting, but it’s not unusual for council members to receive calls in the days beforehand from people giving advice and supporting particular members of council for various roles.
That didn’t happen this year, said Council member Mike Suarez, who said earlier this week that he hadn’t received any calls. That’s in contrast to two years ago, he said, when there were lots of calls.
Lisa Montelione nominated Miranda for re-election. Yvonne Yolie Capin tried to nominate Cohen for chairman as well, but he said, “Respectfully, I’d like to decline.”
