No lunch plans Friday? Why not Eat at Joe's
Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn has got his food truck rallies. Now Hillsborough County is adding a new twist to outdoor lunch-time eating downtown.
This Friday, Hillsborough kicks off its inaugural Eat at Joe's luncheon. As in, Joe Chillura Courthouse Square Park, the block of open space across the street from County Center in downtown Tampa. The lunch event, the brainchild of County Commissioner Al Higginbotham, will take place every second Friday of the month through August, rain or shine.
This will work a little differently than the food truck rallies. The county has two restaurants lined up to sell food: NatePaul's Q4U will be dishing out barbeque and LaPetite France will be selling crepes, covering two realms of the dining spectrum. Other restaurants downtown are being enouraged to sell takeout box lunches.
There will be music, with Johnny Lowry playing steel drums. And the court's namesake, Chillura, a former county commissioner, is expected to put in an appearance for the first picnic. Here's guessing he's more of a barbeque man.
The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of Pierce Street and Kennedy Boulevard.
