Penny Vinik, wife of Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik, donated $500 to Democrat Kevin Beckner in his clerk of the circuit court race against incumbent Democrat Pat Frank.

The contribution was part of a $11,460 haul for Beckner, according to campaign finance records posted Tuesday. It was his strongest month of fundraising since July. Beckner has raised more than $140,000 to date.

His primary opponent, Frank, raised $5,849 in October, and has brought in $90,000 since joining the race in July. October campaign finance figures for Eric Seidel, the lone Republican in the race, were not available as of Tuesday afternoon. They are due on the 10th day of each month.

The Vinik’s have contributed sparsely to local candidates over the years, totalling $5,000 in donations since 2013. Combined, they donated $2,000 to Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn in 2014. Jeff Vinik, though, is one of Gov. Rick Scott’s top donors.

Beckner is the only local campaign to receive money from either in 2015.

So does Penny’s contribution represent an endorsement of Beckner over Frank?

Vinik spokeswoman Ali Glisson had no comment.
