PolitiFact Florida's Buck-O-Meter rates Tampa's Neighborhood University as a Promise Kept

After about five months of planning, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn's new Neighborhood University has a schedule of classes, an application process, a curriculum — and a fresh rating from PolitiFact Florida's Buck-O-Meter.

When he ran for mayor, Buckhorn promised to create a Neighborhood University to give formal neighborhood leadership training to civic activists. He also promised to model his program on the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Tampa program, which was launched in 1971. Click here for the complete rating on this promise.

The Buck-O-Meter is a project of PolitiFact Florida, the political fact-checking arm of the Tampa Bay Times. Including the new rating on the Neighborhood University, the Buck-O-Meter has concluded that Buckhorn has kept 18 of 34 promises that he made during his 2011 run for mayor. On the rest, the mayor's ratings stand at eight Compromises, three Promises Broken and two Stalled.
