PTC cuts cost of permits for taxis, limos
After several attempts to pacify rideshare companies over the past couple months, the Hilllsborough Public Transportation commision made moves this week to placate taxi and limo companies who feel Uber and Lyft are encroaching on their businesses.
The PTC voted Wednesday to cut permit fees in half -- but only for the first six months of the 2016. The timeline means taxi, vans and limos would get a discount on the highly priced permits while the Florida State Legislature debates whether to allow rideshares, otherwise known as transportation network companies, to operate legally. Those companies, by the way, refuse to buy the county's required permits and licenses that are mandated for for-hire vehicles.
