Rick Kriseman goes to Madeira Beach for fundraiser
Amid a series of mayoral debates this week on issues impacting small businesses, Rick Kriseman is going outside the city for campaign money.
With hundreds of bars and restaurants in Florida’s fourth-largest city, Kriseman's supporters are holding an event next month in Madeira Beach.
First reported Thursday by Peter Schorsch of SaintPeterBlog.com, a group of leaders from the beach communities are hosting an event at the Daiquiri Shak on Oct. 12 from 2-4 p.m.
Mayor Bill Foster said he will keep his events inside the city at local venues.
"Perhaps Mr. Kriseman really is running to be the mayor of Tampa Bay," Foster said.
Cesar Fernandez, Kriseman's campaign manager, said the event has no reflection on Kriseman's views toward local businesses. As a matter of fact, Fernandez said it shows that Kriseman's relationships throughout the region can help the city when he unseats Foster, he added.
"The supporters are hosting the fundraiser," he said. "We did not plan this."
