Rick Kriseman raises $51,381 for St. Petersburg mayor's race
St. Petersburg mayoral candidate Rick Kriseman is off to a fast start raising money on the campaign trail.
The former City Council member and state legislator will report Wednesday that he raised $51,381 since declaring his candidacy on Feb. 11. He held a fundraiser in Tallahassee and one in St. Petersburg.
The Kriseman camp says 236 donors gave money from across Florida, but the bulk came from Pinellas County.
“I’m humbled by the strong financial support of over 2,000 donors to my campaign,” Kriseman said in a release. “This outpouring of support demonstrates that St. Petersburg residents are ready for leadership and vision at City Hall.”
City Hall insiders have wondered whether Kriseman had the name recognition to raise the cash needed to take on Foster, who raised nearly $250,000 in 2009.
The first quarter reports are due today. Foster has not yet filed his report. The primary is Aug. 27.
