St. Pete launches campaign to keep Rays — softly
It you weren't scanning your Twitter or Facebook feeds Monday evening, you might have missed it.
Just as people were shutting down their computers at the end of the workday, Mayor Rick Kriseman tweeted and posted on his Facebook account a plan to keep the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg.
Well, more like a teaser of the plan.
For now, the "Baseball Forever" campaign is an opportunity to sign up for more information. A more formal lauch will come later this week, said Kriseman chief of staff Kevin King.
Kriseman decided to forgo a news release in favor of a soft launch. His tweet was retweeted eight times as of 11 a.m. Tuesday. Tweets by Deputy Mayor Kanika Tomalin and Ben Kirby, spokesman for Mayor Rick Kriseman, were retweeted three times.
Kriseman officials have said the campaign will be the city's best effort to keep the Rays in the city of 250,000.
And it started with a whisper.
