St. Petersburg news conference to mark third anniversary of BP disaster
U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., and U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Tampa, are expected to join representatives of the Gulf Restoration Network, National Wildlife Federation, Sierra Club, University of South Florida and Mote Marine Laboratory at a news conference Friday to mark the third anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
The Deepwater Horizon rig blew up 50 miles off Louisiana on April 20, 2010. In the 85 days that it took BP to cap the well, an estimated 172 million gallons of crude oil gushed into the gulf.
The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Demens Landing in St. Petersburg.
