Tampa Bay area peace groups to protest idea of military strike against Syria
Peace activists plan to gather from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Saturday at S Dale Mabry Highway and Gandy Boulevard in Tampa to protest possible U.S. military intervention in Syria.
"There is no justification for an attack on Syria, regardless of who used chemical weapons," St. Pete for Peace spokeswoman Melissa Baird said in an announcement of the group's plans. "Throughout the week we will be urging members of congress to reject the Obama administration's desperate push for U.S. attacks in Syria."
Organizers held a similar rally on Saturday. Groups involved in the event include the Syrian American Forum, St. Pete for Peace, the Uhuru Solidarity Movement, the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign, Nature Coast Coalition for Peace & Justice, the Peace & Freedom Party of Florida, The Refuge and Catholic Worker Pinellas.
