Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn endorses Rep. Ed Narain for Florida Senate
Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn endorsed State Rep. Ed Narain Thursday in his campaign to replace Sen. Arthenia Joyner in Florida Senate District 19, which includes portions of Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
“Following in the footsteps of both Senator Arthenia Joyner and County Commission Chair Les Miller who previously held this seat, I believe that Ed is the clear choice in this race,” Buckhorn said in a statement. “I have worked with Ed on a number of issues affecting our region and he has been a great advocate and teammate for us in Tallahassee.”
Narain is running against two other well-known Tampa Bay lawmakers (Rep. Darryl Rouson, St. Petersburg, and former state representative Betty Reed of Tampa) in addition to political newcomer Augie Ribeiro, a trial lawyer who is mostly self-funding his campaign.
Riberio earned former Tampa Mayor Dick Greco’s endorsement last week, while Rouson has scooped up many of the endorsements from Pinellas. U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Tampa, and former U.S. Rep Jim Davis, D-Tampa, have also endorsed Narain.
"We are humbled and honored to have so many outstanding Democratic leaders willing to get behind us in this primary,” Narain said in a statement. “Mayor Buckhorn's endorsement is a great sign of our momentum. We will keep working relentlessly every day to get out our message and turn out the vote."
Narain, an AT&T area manager, has served one term in the Florida House of Representatives serving district 61 in Tampa.
