U.S. Reps. Kathy Castor and Jim Davis endorse Ed Narain for Florida Senate District 19
TAMPA — U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Tampa, and former U.S. Rep Jim Davis, D-Tampa, have endorsed state Rep. Ed Narain in the Florida Senate District 19 race.
Narain is one of three prominent lawmakers vying for the seat currently held by state Sen. Arthenia Joyner. Rep. Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, and former state Rep. Betty Reed, D-Tampa, are also seeking to fill the seat.
“As a member of the Florida House, Ed has also worked to bring much needed state dollars back to east Tampa to compliment federal investments and have impact all their own,” Castor said. “As a member of the State Senate, I am confident he will continue to be an effective partner as we fight to improve the lives of our friends and neighbors across Tampa Bay."
Joyner announced her endorsement of Narain shortly after he filed his candidacy earlier this year.
Both Reed and Rouson opened campaign accounts in 2015 as first steps toward running in 2016 for the Senate district drawn to favor minority candidates. The district, which formerly included Manatee County, covers Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
“It truly is special to be endorsed by two people I hold in very high regard,” Narain said. “They understand the needs of the district, both in Pinellas and Hillsborough County, and I’m glad that they see me as the best person to follow in Sen. Joyner’s footsteps.”
