U.S Sen. Bill Nelson endorses Rick Kriseman in St. Petersbsurg mayor's race
St. Petersburg mayoral hopeful Rick Kriseman won an endorsement from U.S Sen. Bill Nelson.Kriseman announced the endorsement Thursday morning in a news release. The move is a rare one for Nelson, who doesn't typically get involved in local races.
Nelson and Kriseman are both Democrats.
“Rick Kriseman is a strong leader who will bring people together to find solutions for the challenges facing St. Petersburg,” Nelson said in a statement. “As mayor, Rick will do well for St. Petersburg.”
Kriseman said he is honored by the endorsement.
“Senator Nelson knows first hand the need for pragmatic leadership and bipartisan consensus building. As mayor of St. Petersburg, I will bring the people of the great city together to create jobs, improve our schools and strengthen our neighborhoods.”
Kriseman faces Mayor Bill Foster and Kathleen Ford in the Aug. 27 primary election.
