Zephyrhills chamber taps familiar face to be director
The Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce will have its third director in the past nine months when Melonie Monson takes over the job Feb. 29.
Monson, the assistant city clerk for the city of Zephyrhills, previously had been the chamber’s members services coordinator. In her new role, she said she wanted to strengthen the community, promote businesses and enhance development in the area.
Monson, 54, replaces Rod Mayhew, who departed the position after 90 days. Mayhew started in October, filling a vacancy created when the highly regarded Vonnie Mikkelsen resigned in July 2015 after accepting a job, near her hometown, as executive director/CEO of the Chamber of Commerce in Springfield, Ore.
Monson’s familiarity with Zephyrhills drew praise from Tim Linville, chamber presidents and chairman of the search committee.
“I’m excited we have been able to select someone from Zephyrhills to lead the Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce who has familiarity with the local area,’’ Linville said in a released statement. “She is a citizen of Zephyrhills and a graduate of Zephyrhills High School and is already acquainted with the political and business leaders of the community.’’
