Vic Damone's Mercedes dismantled to free feral kitten from engine compartment

Remember singer Vic Damone, who was popular in the 1940s and '50s? We haven't heard much of him lately, but he sounds like a pretty good guy.

He let rescuers dismantle his Mercedes sport utility vehicle in his driveway on Memorial Day because a feral kitten was trapped in the engine compartment, according to PalmBeachPost.com.

A Fire-Rescue team was sent to the Damone home, but the way the cat was stuck, rescuers could not immediately lift it.

More crews came, with more equipment. They jacked up the Mercedes, hoping to reach the kitten from either the top or bottom of the engine compartment. Among other tactics, they greased the kitten with cooking oil and removed the antifreeze reserve, air filter, belts and hoses before successfully freeing the 2-pound kitten.

Damone, 80, praised Fire-Rescue and shrugged off any inconvenience of having his Mercedes dismantled. “We’ll get a mechanic,” he said.

And the very relieved kitten is going to a foster home.
