Animal dispute escalates

A neighbor wants the St. Augustine Wildlife Reserve to leave, even though the sanctuary for exotic animals had already been there for eight years when he built his house in  2007.

Deborah Warrick — who has wolves, tigers, leopards and mountain lions as well as a real lion — said most of her neighbors find the roars, howls and clucks of her property amusing. Neighbors bring their visitors on tours of her facility, she told jacksonville.com.

Except for Donald Enders, who says the noises keep him awake at night, so he has started calling deputies. But since he has lost in his attempts to relocate the reserve, he has resorted to another tactic — target-shooting, often while Warrick is giving tours of the reserve. So she’s started calling deputies, too, because her animals and visitors are being spooked.

Neither one sees an end to the dispute.
