Judge's Hebrew name sparks Muslim rumors

Barack Obama isn’t the only person confronted with widespread, but false, rumors that he is a Muslim. In the thick of a tough re-election campaign, some blogger began spreading that rumor about veteran Broward County Family Court Judge Elijah Williams, MiamiHerald.com reports.

   The evidence? Williams’ first name.

“It was a bit surreal. I ended up explaining to people — some of them prominent, educated people who asked about this — that if my name concerned them, they should know ‘Elijah’ has Hebrew roots, that Elijah was a prominent prophet and leader in the Old Testament. But the situation was also uncomfortable,” he said. He was re-elected.
