HOLIDAY — A 45-year-old man is accused of smashing a glass bottle of eggnog over his mother's head, beating her in the face, using a stun gun on her half a dozen times and telling her he would kill her if she told anyone about the abuse. Ramey E. Newkirk is also accused of battering his 65-year-old mother with her oxygen tank.

Newkirk was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated battery on a person 65 years or older, tampering with a witness and grand theft. An anonymous tip led deputies to the house that mother and son shared in Holiday Lake Estates, according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report. Newkirk told deputies his mother was robbed and that's why her face and head were cut and bruised, a report states.

"If I want to survive, the story is I was robbed," the mother told deputies, the report states. She said her son isn't a criminal and needs mental help.

Newkirk is being held without bail at the Pasco County jail.
