Wife spikes coffee with Xanax

A Volusia County woman is accused of spiking her husband’s coffee with Xanax because (she claimed) he was abusive and she wanted to calm him down, OrlandoSentinel.com reports. Donald Goetz called deputies after his wife, Melissa Goetz, left him a voice-mail message in which he could hear her telling another woman she had been spiking his coffee.

Sheriff’s officials are treating it as attempted murder, news-journalonline.com reports. Xanax is used to treat panic problems, with its main side effect being drowsiness.

It isn’t quite as straightforward as the case in Fort Myers, where Lee County sheriff’s detectives say a 40-year-old wanted to trade her husband’s motorcycle in exchange for his death, news-press.com reports. But again, communications tripped up the plot, as the “hit man” was actually a detective.
