Wrong receipt foils shoplifting scam, Pasco deputies say

Piquette Authorities say Aaron Phillip Piquette took a $299 backpack blower from Lowe's, slipped out of the garden section without paying, then returned to the store seeking a refund so he could pocket the cash.

Only one problem: The receipt he presented to the clerk was from Walmart, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

Piquette, 33, tried to leave the store at 8312 Little Road on Monday evening, the report said, but was detained by a loss prevention officer.

In his wallet, deputies found three oxycodone pills and half a Xanax. Piquette told deputies he didn't know how the pills got there.

Piquette of 8837 Sterling Lane in Port Richey was charged with retail theft and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. He remained at the Land O'Lakes jail Tuesday in lieu of $4,150 bail.
