Lehr the latest signing
The Bucs have signed offensive guard Matt Lehr, a Falcons free agent, to a one-year contract, his agent said today.
The Bucs were among several teams vying for Lehr's services, including the Giants and Dolphins.
Lehr, 6-2 and 304 pounds, started a combined 26 games for the Falcons during the past two seasons and has 69 starts in six seasons. Last season, the 27-year-old was suspended for four games after violating the NFL's steroid policy.
Lehr's signing comes on a day the Bucs are hosting Denver guard Cooper Carlisle, another starting-caliber lineman who can play multiple positions. There was no immediate word on whether Carlisle is close to a deal.
And in other team news, offensive lineman Anthony Davis was arrested in his hometown of Victoria, Va. on Sunday and charged with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor. The exact nature of the situation is not clear, and Victoria police chief James A. Drayton declined to elaborate.
Davis' agent, Jeffrey Chilcoat, would not comment on the details but said the incident that prompted the arrest was instigated by a person other than Davis. Chilcoat believes there is a chance Davis, 27, will be cleared of any wrongdoing.
Davis, who was later released on his own recognizance, is scheduled for a court appearance on April 25.
