Galloway has groin strain

Joey Galloway's strenuous offseason workouts got perhaps a little too aggressive.

He missed the first practice this morning because of a groin strain he suffered while doing conditioning in personal workouts.

Coach Jon Gruden said Galloway was doing some high-speed training when the injury occurred. Expect the Bucs to be very deliberate in how they approach the prospect of Galloway returning. They won't rush their top offensive weapon back into the lineup prematurely.

If this sounds familiar, well, it should. Galloway suffered a groin injury in his very first game with the Bucs, in 2004. He went on to miss the next six games and finished the season with 416 yards in 10 games.

Also, to update this morning's entry, Greg White has signed the original offer extended by the team and seemed resigned to his fate when I spoke with him this morning. He would have liked to have struck a multi-year deal, something in the three- to four-year range, but it's conceivable the sides can continue talking throughout the season.

To make room for White, cornerback Jonathan Hefney was released. He was a rookie free agent from the University of Tennessee.
